Beginning-of-the-year to-do list: Rooms to revamp

The new year is officially here, and with it comes an opportunity for a fresh start. For many, that means decluttering their wardrobe, setting a fitness resolution or vowing to be more conscious of their finances. For others, it’s all about revamping their home to create a living space that’s equally comforting, refreshing, functional and stylish. After all, we’re living in strange times that involve spending more time in our own homes than we ever imagined. So why not make the most of each room and give them the interior design and decor attention they deserve?

Remember, you don’t have to implement drastic style changes to make a difference. The smallest adjustments can make a big impact. No matter the amount and type of changes you’ve considered, there are certain rooms to pay attention to this time of year. Here are a few we recommend adding to your beginning-of-the-year to-do list:

1. The family room or living room
Many people consider the family or living room the area in the house that gets the most foot traffic, and with good reason. Even if you and your live-in family members are spending most of your days together, the family room ends up being the space you can all wind down and relax after a long day.

To revamp the living area in your home for the new year, we recommend brightening up the space to prepare for spring. Taking advantage of natural lighting with sheer window coverings and decorating with a splash of color are a few of the simple ways to revamp the space and combat the winter blues.

2. The home office
Your home office is likely getting more use than ever before. In fact, studies have shown the people who have continued to work from home are 47% more productive than working in an office setting.  No longer is that home office solely used for paying bills or catching up on a good book. With so much time spent here, you deserve a revamp that inspires you to work hard and stay motivated.

New furniture, for example, can get you excited to work in the home office and allows you to better maximize the amount of space you have. This is another room that can benefit from natural lighting — place your desk facing your windows as another opportunity to motivate and inspire.

3. The basement
Whether you use your basement for taking care of the laundry or it’s always been a place used to entertain friends and family, there’s a chance someone in the house utilized this space immensely throughout the pandemic.

If you want to revamp this room, think about what design schemes and decorations would work best in the space based on how it’s being used at this time. Maybe you’ve turned the area into a new home gym, or it’s an extra play space for the children. No matter how you utilize the basement at the moment, keep bright and refreshing colors in mind to avoid the gloom and doom feeling that’s often associated with this living space.

Something as simple as new wall decor or lamps can transform the vibe in the basement.

4. The children’s room or play area
Between young kids and teens focusing on remote learning in their rooms, to toddlers maximizing the playroom space to the fullest extent, your children surely made use of their personal living spaces in the last year. The amount of time spent in these rooms alone justifies the need for a revamp!

Let your kids be involved with the readjustments to decide what kind of decor to incorporate. New multifunctional furniture can be beneficial to incorporate into the room for storage purposes; keeping the kid’s room organized is just as important as making it more fun and exciting.

Use fun, bold colors in your kid's room.
